YARMOUTH - The municipalities of Clare, Argyle and Yarmouth and the Town of Yarmouth have joined forces with the South West Shore Development Authority to improve the region's tourism industry.
The new tourism plan's goals include building a world-class aquarium on Yarmouth's waterfront, developing a product highlighting Acadian culture that will draw new tourists to the area, and improving the area's golf courses.
Larry Peach, tourism director for the Municipality of Clare, will be the director of the new tourism initiative. The regions of Yarmouth, Argyle and Clare will each have their own tourism officers. "We need to change the perception of this region and become a tourist destination rather than a gateway," Mr. Peach said in a news release.
